Four people in critical condition
A serious crash in Oakland Township, Butler County this morning has resulted in four individuals being hospitalized with severe injuries. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Route 38 and Oneida Valley Road near the intersection of Weed Road in a 2005 Jeep Liberty.
All four passengers, aged between 13 and 20 years old, were flown to Pittsburgh area hospitals where they are currently listed in critical condition. The State Police have released the names of the injured individuals as Sara Brown (20) from Butler, Clayton Snow (20) from Butler, Benjamin Claypoole (18) from Emlenton, and an unnamed child who is only 13 years old.
According to authorities, at some point during their journey, the Jeep crossed over into oncoming northbound traffic before swerving back onto its original path. It then hit an embankment and flipped over. During this time, a tractor-trailer also collided with the Jeep.
While everyone inside the Jeep sustained severe injuries requiring transportation to nearby hospitals for treatment, John McGary of North Cambria - driver of the tractor-trailer - escaped unharmed despite damage to his truck.
The cause behind the initial swerve that led to the accident remains unknown at this time; however, investigations are ongoing to determine what happened.
This particular stretch of Route 38 and Oneida Valley Road poses significant dangers for motorists due to its inherent risks.
