Driver Killed in Seven-Vehicle Crash on I-70 in Plainfield

One driver dead, two others sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries
A multi-vehicle crash on I-70 resulted in the death of one driver and closed down eastbound lanes for almost six hours on Saturday afternoon. The accident involved seven vehicles, including three semi-trucks and four cars. According to a police release, they received multiple calls about the incident around 12:05 p.m.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found several damaged vehicles with one car turned upside down and on fire. They quickly extinguished the flames but unfortunately found that the driver was trapped inside and had passed away due to injuries sustained from the crash.
Police stated that preliminary investigations revealed that traffic was already backed up due to a minor collision on the side of I-70 when one semi-truck failed to stop in time and collided with stopped traffic. As a result, two vehicles rolled over while others were severely damaged.
The cause of this tragic accident is still under investigation as per police reports; however, alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors contributing to it. Two other individuals involved in this incident were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators remained at the scene for several hours, with only one lane opened for eastbound traffic along I-70.
