Atlanta Police Investigate Fatal High-Speed Crash in Southwest Atlanta
Atlanta police are investigating a fatal single-car crash that occurred on May 27, 2023, around 11:45 p.m. near Tucker Avenue and Lee Street in southwest Atlanta. Speed is believed to have been a factor in the accident.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the car had crashed into a large concrete pillar supporting MARTA train tracks. The driver, identified as a 40-year-old man whose name has not yet been released by authorities, was pulled from the wreckage but pronounced dead at the scene by medics.
The reason for why the driver veered off of Lee Street is still under investigation by APD's Accident Investigations Unit.
