Two people injured in single vehicle crash on Gateway

Both victims were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
NEWTON COUNTY, Mo. — A single-vehicle crash occurred on Gateway Drive, just north of Wildwood entrance, on Wednesday afternoon, May 3, 2023, at around 2:30 p.m. The incident was reported to Newton County Central Dispatch, which prompted the response of Redings Mill Fire, Newton County Deputies, and Newton County Ambulance.
Joplin Fire also responded to the scene, but it was later determined that the crash was out of the city limits of Joplin. Missouri State Highway Patrol was notified and Cpl G.H. Hendrix of Troop D provided details of the incident.
According to Cpl Hendrix, the passenger car was traveling north when it left the roadway to the right, hit a driveway, caught air, and overturned down a steep embankment/ravine. The car came to rest upside down. There were two people in the car, both of whom were able to get out on their own and were sitting roadside at the top of the ravine when EMS arrived.
Both individuals were transported to an area hospital by Newton County Ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.
