Two people rescued, one with serious head injury

A small single-engine airplane crashed into Lake Tahoe early Saturday morning, with the two individuals on board being rescued by nearby boaters. The incident occurred in the southern part of the lake and prompted calls for assistance to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.

According to a statement from the sheriff's office, they received multiple calls shortly after 10 a.m. reporting the crash. One of the rescued individuals suffered a serious head injury during the accident.

The aircraft involved was identified as a Piper PA-28, equipped with a single engine. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that it will be conducting an investigation into the crash alongside the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

As of now, there is no information available regarding where exactly the plane was headed or what caused it to crash. The sheriff's office has not yet responded to requests for further details.

Flight tracking platform FlightAware revealed that the plane had departed from Truckee Tahoe Airport at approximately 9:15 a.m., prior to crashing into Lake Tahoe.

This incident serves as another reminder of how crucial quick response and assistance can be during aviation emergencies. Thanks to nearby boaters who promptly came to their aid, both occupants were successfully rescued from potential danger.
