No survivors

The Kennebec County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that there were no survivors after a small twin-engine freight plane crashed on Tuesday night in Litchfield, Maine. The incident occurred on Oak Hill Road and involved two individuals who were onboard the aircraft.

State police are providing assistance to the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office, along with firefighters from Monmouth, Gardiner, and Litchfield at the crash site. Investigators have stated that they will likely remain at the scene for several days due to its heavily wooded location.

Witnesses reported seeing the small plane go down before hearing a loud explosion.

According to dispatchers from 911 services, flight WIG634 departed from Lewiston's municipal airport. This plane is owned by Wiggins Airways, a New Hampshire based cargo airline operating throughout the Northeast United States.

Flight tracking data reveals that after taking off from Lewiston Airport, flight WIG634 followed an irregular path, first heading south over Sebago Lake towards New Hampshire before turning northward past Lewiston. The aircraft then changed course back towards Lewiston after flying over Wales Airport.

At 5:40 p.m., the last signal from the plane's transponder was received.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be conducting an investigation into the crash.
