Sophie Ringquist was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Connecticut State Police have reported that a 17-year-old girl from Burlington, Sophie Ringquist, has died after falling out of a moving pickup truck early Sunday morning. The incident occurred on Fieldview Drive near Polly Dan Road in Burlington just before 1:30 am.

According to state police, an 18-year-old man from Harwinton was driving the Chevy Silverado 2500 HD in an unknown direction when "unknown events occurred," causing the front passenger to fall out of the vehicle while it was still moving. Ringquist sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital where she later passed away due to blunt impact injuries to her torso.

Initially, Connecticut State Police had said that Ringquist wasn't from Burlington; however, they have since corrected their statement. No charges have been filed yet as authorities are asking witnesses with any information or video footage related to the incident to come forward and contact Trooper Khariton #1433 or Sgt. McAlpin #187 at Troop L by calling (860) 626-7900.
