Five Young Women Killed in Minneapolis Crash

The driver of the speeding vehicle ran off but was caught by police. Police believe the driver may have been impaired. The crash remains under investigation.
Late on Friday night, a speeding driver hit another vehicle at the intersection of Second Avenue and Lake Street in south Minneapolis. The accident resulted in the death of four women and one girl. According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara, a state trooper spotted the speeding driver on Interstate 35W around 10:15 p.m., but before he could stop the vehicle, it exited onto Second Avenue and ran a red light.
The victims have been identified as Sabiriin Ali (17), Sahra Gesaade (20), Salma Abdikadir (20), Sagal Hersi (19) and Siham Adam (19). They were inseparable friends who were out together preparing for their friend's wedding slated for Saturday when they met with this tragic incident.
Ali had just graduated from Edina High School and was planning to attend the University of Minnesota while Gesaade was about to start her junior year at U of M Rochester. Abdikadir attended Normandale College, Adam attended U of M, and Hersi attended Minneapolis College.
The speeding driver fled from the scene but was caught by police later on; they believe he may have been impaired during driving. The Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center has started an online fundraiser for their families which has raised $222,000 by Saturday evening.
The crash remains under investigation, and the police have yet to name the person responsible. The community is grieving over this tragic loss of life and praying for strength for the families of those affected by this accident.
