Stefan Wilson taken to hospital for advanced imaging, Katherine Legge released after incident

IndyCar driver Stefan Wilson was taken to the hospital on Monday after a heavy crash with Katherine Legge during practice for the Indianapolis 500. This was the first wreck of the two-week build-up to "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing." The incident occurred about an hour into the two-hour practice when Legge hit Wilson's Dreyer & Reinbold Racing car from behind, sending them skidding into the wall.

Wilson was immobilized and wearing a neck brace but gave a quick thumbs-up after being removed from his crumpled car by safety teams. Meanwhile, Legge climbed out of her machine on her own. Dr. Julia Vaizer, chief medical director for IndyCar and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, stated that Wilson is doing well and is in good spirits as he undergoes advanced imaging at the hospital.

Wilson's brother Justin Wilson was killed while competing in an IndyCar race at Pocono back in 2015.

It remains unclear whether Legge will be granted use of an entirely new chassis or if her current vehicle can be repaired following yesterday’s accident.
