19-year-old man and 20-year-old woman killed in stolen truck chase in Wichita

Two people were killed and the driver of the stolen truck received minor injuries.
Police in Andover, Kansas are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Sunday afternoon. According to reports from the Andover Police Department (APD), a 19-year-old man stole a truck from a Dollar General store in Andover after being given a ride by an unsuspecting woman.
The APD received the report of the stolen vehicle at around 2:45 p.m. An officer spotted the stolen truck just four minutes later and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the suspect fled and led police on a seven-minute chase with assistance from the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP).
The pursuit was terminated when officers reached Greenwich Rd and E 47th St S due to heavy traffic conditions. The suspect continued south onto Greenwich Rd before colliding head-on with another vehicle near Derby.
Two people in that car were pronounced dead at the scene - identified as a 19-year-old man and 20-year-old woman from Sedgwick County/Butler County area. The driver of the stolen truck sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
"The department has spoken with both Butler County Attorney and Sedgwick County Attorney," said Buck Buchanan, Chief of Police for APD. "They are deciding what charges will be pending."
