Road closure, tanker driver injured

A tanker truck crashed into the woods in Adams County this morning, resulting in the closure of a major road. The incident occurred at approximately 8 a.m. near mile marker 19.4 along northbound Route 15 in Tyrone Township.

As a result of the crash, both north and southbound lanes of Route 15 have been shut down. Additionally, a secondary crash took place on Route 15 as a consequence of the initial accident.

The duration of the road closure remains uncertain; however, dispatchers anticipate it will last for "an extended period of time."

According to PennDOT (Pennsylvania Department of Transportation), the tanker was carrying liquid bituminous oil, commonly known as asphalt. The spillage occurred on both the road surface and within the surrounding wooded area. In response to this hazardous situation, a hazmat team has been summoned to address any potential environmental concerns.

PennDOT further explained that the tanker veered off-road after one of its tires blew out, leading to the crash. While injuries were sustained by the driver involved in this incident, their current condition remains unknown.
