Teen Arrested After Fatally Hitting Pedestrian in Arcadia

A 17-year-old teenager from San Bernardino has been arrested after fatally hitting a pedestrian while trying to escape from the police in Arcadia. The incident occurred on Friday night around 11:26 p.m. near West Huntington Drive and Santa Clara Avenue.
According to a statement released by the Arcadia Police Department, officers noticed the teen speeding in the area and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, instead of complying with their instructions, the suspect suddenly accelerated through a red light and struck a pedestrian who was crossing at the crosswalk.
Tragically, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. While authorities were providing assistance to the victim, they discovered that the teenage suspect had fled from the scene. Fortunately, they were able to locate his abandoned vehicle nearby.
"The suspect was located a short time later, hiding in some shrubs," stated an official from Arcadia Police Department.
The investigation into this tragic incident is being handled by Arcadia Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team. They are urging anyone with information about this case to come forward and contact them at 626-574-5151, referencing case number 23-2847.
