Teen Training to Become Firefighter Suffers Severe Burns in Dune Buggy Accident

Severe burns on more than half of her body
A 17-year-old aspiring firefighter from Pasadena, California, suffered severe burns on over half of her body in a tragic accident. America Salmeron was involved in a dune buggy accident outside Las Vegas last weekend, leaving her with third-degree burns to her upper body and extensive burns covering 51% of her body.
According to a GoFundMe page set up for Salmeron, the dune buggy flipped and caught fire during the incident. Despite being trapped under burning wreckage, she managed to free herself just before the vehicle exploded.
Salmeron recently graduated from Pasadena High School and had plans to attend Pasadena City College. She had been an outstanding Explorer with the Pasadena Fire Department for more than 18 months and was in the process of interviewing to become a sponsored cadet at the Verdugo Fire Academy.
Speaking from her hospital bed to KTLA news station, Salmeron expressed that she views her injuries as a test from God. She believes this experience will determine how badly she truly wants to pursue her dream of becoming a firefighter – and it seems that nothing will deter her.
Currently receiving treatment at a trauma center in Las Vegas, Salmeron has undergone multiple surgeries since the accident occurred. To assist with medical expenses incurred by Salmeron's family during this difficult time, friends and well-wishers have started a GoFundMe campaign.
The fundraising page aims to gather financial support for Salmeron's recovery journey as she battles through these challenging circumstances.
