Driver died, passengers expected to recover
In a tragic incident, the teenage driver of a Ford Focus lost his life after the vehicle veered off the road and rolled over in Washington County. The three young passengers in the car were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to reports from the Washington County Sheriff's Office, an individual contacted authorities just before 1 a.m. on Sunday to report an accident involving a car that had gone off the road and ended up in a small ravine along SW 175th near SW Cooper Mountain Lane. Deputies arrived at the scene to find that although the car had landed on its wheels, it was more than 20 feet away from the roadway.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Jesse Warginer, a 19-year-old resident of Beaverton. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead by deputies upon their arrival. It is believed that Warginer was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of impact.
The other occupants of the car were aged between 18 and 20 years old. They were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention following their injuries sustained during this horrific crash. Fortunately, they are expected to make full recoveries.
Crash investigators suspect that "speed, alcohol and controlled substances" may have played significant roles in causing this devastating accident. Preliminary findings indicate that all four individuals had attended a house party in Sherwood prior to embarking on their ill-fated journey.
As authorities continue their investigation into this tragic incident, they urge anyone with information regarding this accident to come forward and contact them at Washington County Sheriff's Office.
This unfortunate event serves as yet another reminder about practicing safe driving habits such as wearing seatbelts and refraining from impaired driving or excessive speeding. Our thoughts go out to all those affected by this heartbreaking loss.
