A teenage girl has been identified as the person killed in a police chase that ended in a crash earlier this week. The incident occurred when Fort Worth police were chasing the driver of a stolen truck, which had three people inside. During the pursuit, the driver hit a pole and struck another car driven by innocent driver Brian Mingate.
Mingate was driving his Toyota Corolla to an internship when he was hit by the stolen pickup truck near the intersection of east Altamesa and Will Rogers boulevards in Fort Worth. Fortunately, he walked away from the crash unharmed.
All three people inside the stolen truck were ejected during the crash and rollover. Police have said that 15-year-old Samaria Ezell was riding in the stolen truck and was killed. The driver and other passenger in the truck were critically injured and taken to hospitals.
The driver of the stolen truck turned 17 years old last week but remains hospitalized; his name has not been released. Police have not made information available related to other passengers or explained why it is likely one will not face criminal charges.
Police did not explain how or why it originated outside of Fort Worth but confirmed that they are investigating further into this matter.
Brian Mingate expressed gratitude for surviving such an ordeal: "Just thank God that he saved my life and everything," Mingate said."No internal bleeding or fractured bones or anything," he added.
