Teenager Hospitalized After Falling Asleep While Driving in Emporia, Kansas

A teenager in Emporia, Kansas, was rushed to the hospital after falling asleep while driving and crashing their truck into a barbed wire fence. The Lyon County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene of the single-vehicle collision on Friday, July 7th.
The incident occurred around 5:20 p.m. in the 2200 block of Road K. Authorities discovered that a 16-year-old named Brook Moore had been driving a 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck northbound on Road K when they allegedly dozed off behind the wheel.
As a result of falling asleep, Moore lost control of the vehicle and veered into a ditch before colliding with a barbed wire fence. Emergency services were called immediately, and Moore was transported to Newman Regional Health for treatment. The extent of their injuries remains unknown at this time.
Fortunately, it appears that Moore was wearing their seatbelt during the accident. Seatbelts are crucial safety measures that can significantly reduce injuries or even save lives in such incidents.
Authorities are reminding drivers about the importance of staying alert and well-rested while operating vehicles. Falling asleep at the wheel poses serious risks not only to oneself but also to others sharing the road.
