DPS trooper sustained lacerations to his face, driver died
A Texas state trooper was hit by a vehicle and ended up pinned in between cars while assisting a drunk driver stuck in the middle of I-10, according to the Chamber County Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning at around 6:29 am near mile marker 815.
The DPS trooper had pulled over to help a drunk driver who was stopped on the interstate when he was hit by another vehicle. According to authorities, "the trooper was moving the car to the inside shoulder when at about 6:33 a.m., a Chambers County deputy pulled over to assist."
Shortly after, another DPS trooper arrived for backup and as he was walking towards the scene, "another vehicle slammed into the trooper's car, pinning him between vehicles," confirmed Sheriff Brian Hawthorne.
The injured officer was taken to hospital via Life Flight but is said to be talking and aware of what happened. He sustained lacerations on his face during the accident.
Unfortunately, however, "the driver who crashed into the officer died," confirmed Sheriff Hawthorne.
