Three Family Members Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Midland, NC

Three family members died, four others injured
Three family members, including a 12-year-old boy, lost their lives and four others sustained injuries in a devastating multi-vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 24/27 near Bethel School Road at approximately 8 a.m., according to the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office.
Preliminary reports suggest that a van veered into oncoming traffic, causing the collision. The driver of the van survived and was airlifted to Atrium Health in Charlotte for treatment. Captain Kevin Klinglesmith from the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office stated, "It's unknown if the driver of the van was suffering from a medical emergency or what would have maybe caused that vehicle to swerve. We just don't know yet."
The sheriff's office revealed that five individuals were traveling in the van en route to their home in Norwood when it suddenly crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with two other vehicles. Unfortunately, three family members inside the van tragically lost their lives: Nicolae Gheorghe, an unidentified woman, and the young boy.
Another woman who was also present in the van along with two drivers involved in the crash were transported to Atrium Health in Cabarrus County for medical attention.
Residents living off Bethel School Road expressed concerns about frequent accidents occurring along this stretch of Highway 24/27.
Following this tragic incident, Highway 24/27 was closed in both directions at Bethel School Road for several hours while law enforcement conducted their investigation. The road was eventually reopened around 3 p.m.
The young boy who lost his life in the crash attended Norwood Elementary School. In light of this devastating event, counselors will be available on Thursday to provide support and assistance to students and staff affected by the tragedy.
