Three killed, others in critical condition
Two sisters and their friend tragically lost their lives in a car accident in Los Angeles. The incident occurred when a Mercedes driver allegedly ran a red light and collided with an Uber carrying four people. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received reports of the driver running the red light at the intersection of S. Vermont Avenue and W. Century Boulevard around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 27.
After hitting the victims' vehicle, the suspect's car spun out of control and landed on the center median. One woman was thrown from the vehicle and died instantly, while two others succumbed to their injuries inside the Honda.
The victims have been identified as Kimberly Izquierdo (27), Veronica Amezola (23), and Juvelyn Arroyo (23). Gregory Black (31), who was driving the Mercedes, is now facing vehicular manslaughter charges and is being held on a $6 million bond.
In addition to those who lost their lives, one man and a 38-year-old woman who were passengers in the Uber, along with its driver, were taken to nearby hospitals in critical condition but have since stabilized.
Black himself was also transported to a hospital in critical condition following the crash.
To support grieving families cope with funeral expenses for Izquierdo and Amezola as well as Arroyo's family members have set up GoFundMe campaigns aiming to raise $35k for Izquierdo/Amezola memorial fund while another campaign seeks $25k for Arroyo's memory.
Since being shared on Sunday, August 27th, the campaigns have raised $7,780 for Izquierdo/Amezola memorial fund and $4,925 for Arroyo's fund.
Both campaigns aim to cover funeral expenses according to their organizers.
