Tow Truck Driver Dale Alan Pumphery Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in Spring Valley

Tow truck driver pronounced dead
On New Year's Eve, a tragic hit-and-run incident took place in Spring Valley, California. The incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. on state Route 125 and Jamacha Blvd. Dale Alan Pumphery, a 63-year-old tow truck driver from El Cajon, was identified as the victim by local medical officials.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Pumphery was in the process of removing a stranded vehicle on southbound state Route 125 when he was struck by a Prius sedan. The collision happened as Pumphery partially entered the No. 4 lane while moving towards the driver's side of his tow truck.
Despite immediate efforts from first responders to save his life, Pumphery was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle that hit him fled from the area without stopping.
As a result of this tragic incident, one lane on southbound SR-125 north of Jamacha Blvd remained closed for several hours to facilitate investigation and cleanup operations.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Dale Alan Pumphery's identity as the deceased through an announcement posted on their website.
