Three Firefighters Injured in Atlanta Tractor-Trailer Crash

Three firefighters injured, expected to recover
Firefighters in Atlanta had a terrifying experience while responding to a car fire on Interstate 285 early Wednesday morning. Their firetruck was struck by a tractor-trailer carrying cheese, leaving three firefighters injured.
The incident occurred shortly before 12:30 a.m. near the Jonesboro Road exit. As the fire crews were working to extinguish the vehicle fire in the eastbound lanes of the interstate, a big rig collided with their firetruck.
Fortunately, all three injured firefighters were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for evaluation and are expected to recover from their injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer also sustained injuries but declined medical treatment. Police have cited them for causing the accident.
In light of this incident, Atlanta Police Department Captain Neil Welch urged drivers to remain vigilant at night and pay attention to emergency vehicles and their flashing lights.
The crash resulted in debris and cheese scattered across all lanes of the interstate, leading authorities to temporarily close it down while they cleaned up and assessed the damage. By 4 a.m., all lanes had been reopened.
