Early Wednesday morning, a crash involving two tractor-trailers occurred on the eastbound span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland. The incident prompted closures overnight, but all lanes reopened before 6 a.m., according to Maryland transportation officials.
The exact time of the crash is still unknown, but the Maryland Department of Transportation reported that the scene was active as early as 4:40 a.m. Both lanes were closed for at least an hour, causing heavy traffic in its wake. However, the westbound span was quickly reopened.
"The eastbound lanes reopened around 5:45 a.m.," said MDTA via Twitter. "No injuries have been reported and cause of crash remains unclear."
This highly-trafficked bridge connects Kent Island with Annapolis and serves as one of Maryland's primary transportation routes across the bay. L
