Tractor-Trailer Crash Closes Northbound Lanes in Palm Coast

A tractor-trailer crash on Thursday morning resulted in the closure of all northbound lanes on Interstate 95 in Flagler County for several hours. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. near mile marker 289 in Palm Coast, according to the sheriff's office. The affected stretch of highway spans from Matanzas Woods Parkway to Palm Coast Parkway.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a vehicle traveling south lost control, veered off the roadway, and collided with a guardrail before reentering the southbound lanes. At that moment, a tractor-trailer traveling south struck the back of the car while it was positioned in the outside southbound lane. Fortunately, neither the driver nor passenger were inside their vehicle at that time.
Following this initial collision, the tractor-trailer swerved left towards the center guardrail and crashed into it before ultimately crossing over into the northbound lanes. As a result of this impact, there was some spillage of "a small amount of hazardous materials."
Thankfully, both drivers involved emerged unscathed from this accident. The tractor-trailer driver is identified as a 59-year-old man from Port Saint Lucie who sustained no injuries during this incident. Likewise, both occupants of the sedan—a 19-year-old man and his 46-year-old passenger—were also uninjured.
As noon approached on Thursday, traffic began moving slowly along I-95 north; however, delays were still expected due to ongoing cleanup efforts at mile marker 289.
Authorities are actively investigating this incident further and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
