tractor-trailer crash on Friday morning caused significant traffic delays for commuters on Interstate 93 south in Canterbury, New Hampshire. The incident occurred around 3:45 a.m., prompting the dispatch of New Hampshire State Police to the southbound side of the highway, just before Exit 17.

The crash involved two tractor-trailer units. Upon arrival at the scene, troopers discovered one truck off an embankment and another with a blown-out tire on the side of the highway. According to Amber Lagace, public information officer for state police, Daniel T. Gagne, a 43-year-old resident of Laconia, was driving a 2016 Kenworth truck loaded with bark when he rear-ended a bobtail tractor unit operated by Robert P. Morin Jr., aged 66 from Weare.

Lagace stated that after colliding with Morin's vehicle, Gagne's truck veered off the right side of the roadway and came to rest on an embankment within the wood line. Fortunately, Morin managed to bring his vehicle safely to a stop in the right breakdown lane.

Authorities determined that driver inattention was directly responsible for causing this accident and subsequently cited Gagne for following too closely. Thankfully, neither driver sustained any injuries during this collision.

The duration it took to investigate and clear up this incident remains unknown; however, according to reports from commuters stuck in traffic as a result of this crash, it lasted more than five hours.

In addition to New Hampshire State Police troopers who responded promptly to handle the situation professionally and efficiently, assistance was provided by various agencies including Troop G unit personnel as well as fire departments from Canterbury and Penacook rescue teams.

Law enforcement officials are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or possesses any relevant information to contact Trooper Tyler Griffin at 603-223-4381 or email him at [email protected].
