The State Highway Patrol received a report of the crash at approximately 6:29 a.m. According to authorities, Zachary Gesibe Oonge, a 47-year-old resident of Arlington, Texas, was driving a 2008 Freightliner tractor-trailer when he veered off the road and went down an embankment into the nearby woods. Tragically, the tractor-trailer also caught fire during the accident.
Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene and transported Oonge to UNC-Hospital located in Chapel Hill for urgent medical treatment. His injuries are reported to be life-threatening.
