Tractor-Trailer Crash in Pueblo Leaves Denzal Jamal Stewart Dead

A tragic accident occurred on Friday morning when a tractor-trailer crashed and ended up scattered across a highway overpass. The driver of the truck, identified as Denzal Jamal Stewart, 33, from Bryan, Texas, sadly lost his life in the crash. Additionally, one of the two dogs that were traveling with Stewart also perished.

According to a spokesperson from the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), there is no evidence to suggest that alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident. Excessive speed has also been ruled out as a contributing factor. However, CSP investigators are currently exploring the possibility that Stewart may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

The aftermath of this devastating crash resulted in the closure of southbound lanes on Interstate 25 for approximately 14 hours near Pueblo. The authorities received an emergency call just after 7 a.m., prompting their immediate response. During this time, investigations were conducted and debris was removed from the scene.

Based on preliminary findings by CSP accident investigators, it appears that the northbound semi veered off to its left side before colliding with a guardrail. Subsequently, it crossed over into opposing traffic and struck another guardrail within the median area. As both cab and trailer jack-knifed together before rolling over onto an embankment leading to an overpass above two lanes of traffic below.

Tragically, during this sequence of events, cargo consisting of hamburger patties spilled out as well. Fortunately for others involved in this harrowing incident such as a 26-year-old Walsenburg man driving southbound whose pickup was hit by part of the rolling trailer - he managed to escape unscathed.

Emergency crews worked diligently to rescue both Stewart's surviving dog and himself from amidst all wreckage present at the scene. Eventually freeing them successfully while ensuring their safety throughout these efforts; they then handed custody of his pet over to personnel representing Humane Society officials from the Pikes Peak Region.

The southbound lanes, which had been closed since the accident occurred at mile marker 88, were finally reopened to traffic at approximately 9:17 p.m. on Friday night. The reopening of these lanes marked an end to a long and arduous day for emergency responders who included five fire departments, three law enforcement agencies, CDOT crews, an ambulance with a medical helicopter on standby, as well as two tow truck companies.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of driver alertness and safety precautions while operating large vehicles such as tractor-trailers.
