The trucking company is cooperating with the National Park Service to clean the wreck site.

On July 17, a tractor trailer carrying emulsified asphalt crashed in Death Valley National Park, resulting in a spillage of the substance. The accident occurred when the brakes on the truck failed while descending Daylight Pass. Despite downshifting, the driver was unable to bring the vehicle to a halt, causing it to crash on the shoulder of Mud Canyon Road, approximately two and a half miles east of North Highway. It is worth noting that commercial trucks are prohibited from using Mud Canyon Road due to its steep grades.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of this incident. The driver was able to seek assistance from park visitors who drove him to an area with cell phone service so he could report the accident. Charges related to this incident are currently pending.

Following the crash, employees from the National Park Service (NPS) promptly arrived at the scene in order to contain and address any environmental concerns caused by this mishap. It is estimated that approximately 5,000 gallons of emulsified asphalt and 150 gallons of diesel were released during the crash.

The trucking company involved in this incident has been cooperating fully with NPS officials as they work together towards cleaning up and restoring the wreck site.
