Traffic Backed Up on I-81 South in Syracuse

Commuters faced significant delays on Wednesday morning as traffic backed up on Interstate 81 South heading into Syracuse. The congestion was caused by an accident that occurred near North Franklin Street involving two cars.

Fortunately, it appears that no one was injured in the collision and no ambulances were dispatched to the scene. However, the aftermath of the incident resulted in a slowdown of traffic flow along I-81 South.

As of 8:15 a.m., vehicles were experiencing stop-and-go conditions for over a mile from the exit leading to Destiny USA all the way to downtown Syracuse. The heavy congestion created frustration among drivers who found themselves stuck in long queues.

To exacerbate matters further, at around 8:20 a.m., an alert issued by the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) indicated that one lane had been closed just past Exit 21 (Spencer Street/Catawba Street). This closure added to the already challenging situation and contributed to further delays for motorists traveling through this section of I-81 South.

Authorities are working diligently to clear the accident site and reopen all lanes as quickly as possible. In the meantime, commuters are advised to seek alternative routes or exercise patience while waiting for normal traffic conditions to resume.
