Train Collides with Abandoned Truck in Rocky Mount

Firefighters from the Rocky Mount Fire Department responded to a late-night incident on Thursday where a train collided with an abandoned truck. The accident occurred on Morning Star Church Road in Rocky Mount at approximately 9:45 pm.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the train had struck a parked truck located on the north side of the Morning Star Church bridge, which crosses over the tracks just north of the Pfizer plant on North Wesleyan Boulevard.

Investigations revealed that it appeared as though the driver of the truck had been driving along the gravel next to the train tracks when their vehicle became stuck. Unfortunately, they were unable to free it before being hit by the passing train.

The conductor operating the train informed firefighters that he did not see anyone inside or near the truck prior to impact. Despite conducting an extensive search using both foot patrols and thermal imaging drones, no sign of any occupants was found.

Firefighters promptly contacted the owner of the truck who explained that they were actually grandparents of its supposed driver and were unaware of his whereabouts.

Fortunately, authorities managed to locate and confirm that he was safe and uninjured on Friday.

According to reports from firefighters at scene, only minor damage was sustained by both locomotive and track during this incident.
