Train collides with tractor-trailer in Wingate

A train collided with a tractor-trailer at a railroad crossing in Wingate, North Carolina on Thursday evening. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. at the railway crossing on North Main Street near Wingate University.
Witnesses reported that the truck was carrying bricks and had become stuck on the tracks before being hit by the train. Photos of the crash showed debris scattered in the immediate area after the train plowed through the middle of the trailer.
Thankfully, no one was injured in this latest collision. However, locals are becoming increasingly frustrated by these incidents as they have been occurring too often recently.
Local leaders met back in March to discuss solutions to prevent further collisions from happening but so far nothing has changed.
The Union County Sheriff's Office along with Wingate Police and CSX are investigating this latest collision while NCDOT officials have stated that raising roadway levels could solve future issues but would cost at least $1 million.
