Multiple injuries, no fatalities

New details have emerged after a train crashed into a semitrailer near Belton on Tuesday. Cass County deputies responded to the incident at E. 187th Street and Holmes Road just before 4:30 p.m.

The crash occurred when the semitrailer became stuck on the tracks. An 8-year-old, 12-year-old, and a 40-year-old woman were all transported to a nearby hospital, as stated in the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) crash report.

According to MSHP, the family inside the semi consisted of four children who were all present in the cab during impact. The driver was not inside the truck at that time, confirmed an MSHP spokesperson.

Investigators are now questioning why there were so many people, especially children, accompanying them for work-related purposes. Neighbors also expressed their surprise over such circumstances.

First responders managed to rescue four children and a 40-year-old woman from within the cab of the semi-truck. The collision caused Celsius energy drinks being carried by the vehicle to be scattered across nearby terrain.

Authorities are perplexed as they investigate why this Minneapolis-based family had taken their kids along for work duties. "We don't know all of these details yet," said MSHP Cpl. Justin Ewing on Tuesday regarding this aspect of inquiry.

All injured individuals were transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for treatment. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the two people aboard the train involved in this collision, according to the crash report.
