Truck Crashes into Media Center at Burgaw Middle School

Damage to media center, no injuries reported
A truck crashed into the media center at Burgaw Middle School in Pender County, North Carolina late Tuesday night, May 30. The incident caused damage to a wall and several computers and equipment inside the media center. Fortunately, no one was injured during the accident.
The driver of the truck has been identified as 41-year-old Johnathan Richard Franklin from Burgaw. According to reports from the Burgaw Police Department, Franklin was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under an impairing substance, failure to decrease speed as necessary to avoid collision and failing to stop at a duly erected stop sign.
Franklin did not report any injuries due to the collision and was taken into custody without resistance. He has since been given a $1,000 secure bond.
Pender County Schools released an announcement stating that they are currently installing a temporary wall in order to secure the building while seeking quotes for permanent repairs. Classes for students continued despite this incident.
An investigation is ongoing according to police officials who responded along with Pender EMS, Pender Fire and Burgaw Fire Department crews who assisted with cleanup efforts on Wednesday morning following the crash.
