Rescue Workers Save Driver After Truck Partially Crashes Over Barrier on Sunshine Skyway Bridge
A driver was rescued by emergency workers after their truck partially crashed over a barrier on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg, Florida. The incident occurred just after 8 a.m. on Friday in the southbound lanes of Interstate 275 towards Manatee County.
The front end of the truck had extended past the concrete barrier and was hanging over water, but it never appeared to be in real danger of toppling over.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol crash report, a driver did not see how slow the truck was going in front of them, which caused their car to crash into the back of the truck's trailer. This collision then caused the truck to partially hop over the concrete barrier.
The good news is that both drivers were taken to an area hospital for treatment and have since been released. The interstate is no longer completely blocked off as rescue teams have removed both vehicles from its path.
This accident serves as another reminder for all drivers out there: always pay attention while driving and keep a safe distance between your vehicle and others around you!
