Two-Car Accident in Rome Sends Rajitha Goddam and Mackenzie Whooten to Hospital

A two-car accident on River Road in Rome resulted in two individuals being hospitalized, according to the Oneida County Sheriffs.
The incident occurred on Thursday, August 17 at approximately 6:00 PM. Upon receiving the report of the accident, officers promptly responded to the scene. After conducting their investigation, authorities determined that the first car involved was driven by 31-year-old Sandeep Korlakunta from Utica. Allegedly, Korlakunta failed to yield for oncoming traffic while entering River Road from a driveway. Consequently, his vehicle pulled in front of the second car driven by 24-year-old Malai Jarvis from New Hartford, resulting in a collision.
One passenger from each vehicle sustained injuries and required medical attention. The passenger of Korlakunta's vehicle is identified as 31-year-old Rajitha Goddam who was transported to Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital for evaluation. Meanwhile, Mackenzie Whooten - a 24-year-old passenger in Jarvis' car - was taken to Rome Health for treatment. Fortunately, both passengers' injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
As a result of his alleged failure to yield right-of-way during the incident, Korlakunta received a traffic citation which will be returnable at a later date before Rome City Court.
Assistance at the scene was provided by Amcare Ambulance and the Rome Fire Department alongside personnel from Oneida County Sheriff's office.
