19-year-old in critical condition, another person stable with non-life-threatening injuries
According to reports from Merriam Police, a 19-year-old is in critical condition following a two-car collision that occurred at around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. The accident took place at the intersection of Shawnee Mission Parkway and Antioch Road in Merriam, Kansas, not far off the I-35 exit.
The intersection was closed as authorities worked to reconstruct or map out the scene of the accident. Drivers were advised to avoid the area due to expected delays caused by this process.
Another person was also taken to hospital but is stable and not considered to have life-threatening injuries, said police officials.
Eastbound traffic on Shawnee Mission Parkway was re-routed toward Johnson Drive while authorities continued their investigation into what led up to this tragic incident.
Further details about those involved in the crash have yet to be released by local law enforcement officials.
