Two Dead in Car Crash on South Third Street in Memphis

According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), two individuals lost their lives in a car crash on South Third Street early Thursday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 4 a.m. on June 29 near the intersection of South Third Street and Holmes Road.
A white car was found lying in a ditch, with reports from police dispatch indicating that it had collided with a tree before coming to a stop. MPD confirmed that both occupants of the vehicle had tragically passed away.
At this time, Memphis Police have not disclosed any specific details regarding what caused this fatal accident. However, according to information provided by the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department (DCSD), it appears that moments prior to the crash, deputies were pursuing this same car in Mississippi.
The DCSD stated that one of their deputies spotted a Nissan Maxima near Highway 61 and Starlanding occupied by two individuals wearing ski masks. Upon attempting to make contact with them after stopping their vehicle, they fled at high speed along Highway 61. The deputy initiated pursuit but soon realized that the car had been reported stolen from Memphis.
The chase came to an end when DeSoto County deputies discontinued their pursuit upon reaching Highway 61's entry into Memphis; they last saw the stolen vehicle entering city limits. The DCSD has clarified that they are not conducting an investigation into this tragic crash themselves.
