Two Dead, Several Injured in Nebraska Crash Involving Miriam Mejia Barrientos and Sloan Luna Portillo

Two dead, several injured
Authorities have released the names of those involved in a fatal crash that occurred in central Nebraska. The accident happened on Thursday at around 12:15 p.m. on Highway 89. According to the Nebraska State Patrol, 28-year-old Kyiaz Ulanov, of Washington, was driving his pickup westbound when he blew through a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 283 and crashed into the passenger side of an SUV.
The passenger of the SUV, 46-year-old Miriam Mejia Barrientos, of Holdrege, was pronounced dead at the scene. The four additional occupants of the SUV that were transported to hospitals have also been identified. Thirteen-year-old Sloan Luna Portillo, of Holdrege, was flown to a Kearney hospital where she died. The driver of the SUV, 43-year-old Olvin Luna, of Holdrege, and an 11-year-old girl were transported to a hospital in Cambridge. Luna was then flown to a hospital in Lincoln. An 11-year-old boy was transported to a hospital in Norton, Kan. and then flown to a hospital in Wichita.
The two occupants of the pickup were transported to a hospital in Norton as well with non-life-threatening injuries. Once released from the hospital, Ulanov was lodged in Phelps County Jail for two counts of motor vehicle homicide and willful reckless driving.
The Nebraska State Patrol was helped by the Furnas County Sheriff’s Office, Beaver City Fire, and Tri City LifeNet. The investigation is ongoing.
