Two Dead After Tires Fly Off Semitruck, Strike Van in Tipp City

Two people have tragically lost their lives in a freak accident that occurred on I-75 in Tipp City. The incident happened when two tires flew off of a semitrailer and went through the windshield of a van, killing both the driver and one passenger who was sitting in the middle back row.
According to authorities, the tires came off of the truck while it was traveling southbound on I-75. They then bounced over the median and clipped one car before coming to rest inside the van.
Emergency crews were quick to respond to the scene, but unfortunately, they were unable to save either victim. “Semitrailers do all kinds of preventative maintenance and just this time it just mechanically didn't work out,” said Cameron Haller, chief of emergency services in Tipp City.
Authorities are calling this incident a complete freak accident that could have happened to anyone. They also noted that there is no indication at this time that any negligence or wrongdoing played a role in what happened.
The driver of the truck did not stop after losing his tires but was later caught by police. He is currently assisting with their investigation into what caused this tragic event.
