Two Deputies Injured in Stolen Truck Crash

Deputies injured, suspect in critical condition
Two Halifax County deputies sustained injuries after a stolen truck crashed into two marked patrol cars during a multi-county chase. The incident has been described by the sheriff's office as a "horrific series of events."
The pursuit began when the Halifax County Sheriff's Office received information around 5 p.m. regarding a man who had committed a violent assault and carjacking in Nash County and was heading towards their jurisdiction. Witnesses reported spotting the suspect driving northbound on Interstate 95 in the stolen Dodge Ram.
Upon locating the stolen vehicle on I-95, Halifax County deputies attempted to stop it. However, the driver evaded capture and exited at Exit 173 in Roanoke Rapids. The chase continued through Roanoke Rapids for several miles until the driver turned onto Highway 158 in Weldon, where he ultimately crashed into two marked patrol vehicles belonging to Halifax County.
Both injured deputies were transported to ECU North Hospital in Roanoke Rapids and are currently listed in good condition. Meanwhile, the carjacking suspect was ejected from the stolen pickup during impact and subsequently taken to a trauma unit where he remains critically injured.
The victim of the initial carjacking incident in Nash County was also hospitalized at Nash General Hospital due to head injuries sustained during the assault. At this time, neither names of those involved nor further details have been released by authorities.
The crash is under investigation by State Highway Patrol officials who will work towards determining all relevant factors leading up to this unfortunate event.
