Two Injured in Four-Car Crash on I-95 in Groton

Two people injured, no fatalities reported
Two individuals sustained injuries following a four-car collision on Thursday afternoon, according to state police. The incident occurred on Interstate 95 (I-95) in Groton.
Just after 3:00 p.m., a Toyota Camry was traveling along the right lane of I-95 North when it approached a stationary police cruiser with its lights activated. Despite attempting to brake, the Camry collided with the rear end of the cruiser. The impact caused the Camry to spin across both the center and left lanes, resulting in "minor contact" with a Toyota Highlander and a Kia Forte, as reported by state police.
As a result of the crash, one state trooper suffered a fractured left arm. Meanwhile, the driver of the Camry sustained non-life-threatening injuries including head pain and lacerations on their finger/arm. Both individuals were promptly transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital located in New London for medical attention.
Fortunately, no other injuries were reported at this time.
The accident prompted authorities to close down I-95 North between exits 85 and 86 throughout Thursday afternoon into evening hours. During this closure period, traffic was diverted onto Long Hill Road as an alternative route.
State Police Troop E based in Montville is currently investigating this incident further. Witnesses or anyone possessing additional information regarding this crash are encouraged to reach out to State Police Troop E at 860-848-6500.
