Two deaths, four injuries
Washington Heights, Manhattan - Two people were tragically killed and four others injured in a devastating crash that occurred in Washington Heights. The incident is believed to have involved a stolen vehicle.
According to authorities, the collision took place at approximately 6:45 a.m. on Audubon Avenue when a Hyundai Elantra, suspected to have been stolen at the end of June, was traveling northbound. The Elantra collided with a Jeep that was heading west on 179th Street.
Eyewitnesses residing in the neighborhood reported observing reckless behavior from the car just moments before the accident occurred.
At the time of the incident, there were five occupants inside the Elantra - all teenagers between ages 15 and 16. Tragically, two individuals aged 16 and 15 were pronounced dead upon arrival at New York Presbyterian-Columbia Hospital.
Additionally, two more passengers - another 16-year-old and a 15-year-old - sustained critical injuries requiring immediate medical attention at Harlem Hospital. Meanwhile, although injured as well, it has been reported that their conditions are less severe compared to their fellow passengers.
The driver of both vehicles also suffered injuries during this horrific event; however, their condition is currently unknown.
Furthermore, investigators from NYPD are diligently working towards determining what factors contributed to this tragic crash which claimed lives so unexpectedly.
