Two killed in head-on collision in Bassett: Denise Anne Cabrera-Cruz and Kateland Ann McKinney

Two people died, one hospitalized
Virginia State Police have reported a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred in Henry County on May 28, claiming the lives of two people. The accident took place around 4:46 p.m. on Blackberry Road near Foley Drive.
According to investigators, Denise Anne Cabrera-Cruz, aged 53 and an eight-year-old passenger were traveling north on Blackberry Road when their vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with another car. Both individuals were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries, but Cabrera-Cruz later died at the hospital. The condition of the eight-year-old is currently unknown.
The driver of the other vehicle was identified as Kateland Ann McKinney from Bassett who was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigations are ongoing; however, VSP has shared that both individuals who died were not wearing seatbelts during the time of the accident.
