Police Arrest Man in Fatal Head-On Collision in University Heights
University Heights police have arrested a man following a head-on collision that turned fatal last Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred on Cedar Road near Brockway Road, and the impact caused both vehicles to catch fire and destroyed a utility pole.
Police arrived at the scene around 4:30 p.m., and found two people who were inside separate vehicles died as a result of the crash.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office identified one of the victims as Marlon Emory, aged 20 from South Euclid. The other victim was identified as John Nelson, aged 57 from Akron.
In addition to these fatalities, another man was found injured in a nearby lawn whom police initially believed to be a pedestrian. He was taken to hospital for treatment. Police have since identified him as Khaleel Johnson, aged 19 from South Euclid and driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident.
Johnson was arrested at University Hospitals on Tuesday and charged with two counts of vehicular homicide (aggravated). He appeared in court on Wednesday where bond was set at $200,000. The case is moving forward to a Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Grand Jury.
An investigation into what led up to this tragic event is ongoing; however, no further details have been released by authorities at this time.
