Two people tragically lost their lives in a traffic accident on Tuesday in Rowan County, and now the driver of the box truck involved is facing charges. The incident prompted a response from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Rowan County Sheriff's Office, and other emergency responders.

The deadly crash occurred on Stokes Ferry Road near its intersection with High Rock Road. As a result of the accident, this busy road had to be temporarily closed but was reopened just after 6 p.m.

According to officials from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 2:34 p.m. Wesley Elvitt Bennett, aged 30 and hailing from Denton, was driving a 2021 Chevrolet box truck heading north on High Rock Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Stokes Ferry Road.

Tragically, Jason Avery Hall (52) from Concord and Sarah McCoy were riding on a motorcycle that collided with Bennett's box truck. Both Hall and McCoy succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the accident.

In contrast to Hall and McCoy's fate, Bennett emerged unscathed from this devastating incident. However, troopers have charged him with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle as well as running a stop sign.
