Both the driver and passenger died on impact.

On Tuesday, at approximately 8:30 a.m., a tragic incident occurred in West Orange, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. According to authorities, a truck crashed into the East Branch of the Rahway River along Northfield Avenue.

The crash was determined to be a single-vehicle accident by officials from West Orange. It is believed that the driver may have experienced a medical episode prior to losing control of the vehicle and veering off the roadway.

After leaving Northfield Avenue, the truck traveled through three parking lots before plunging several feet into the river. Fortunately, due to low water levels, it was virtually dry at that time. Sadly, both occupants of the truck died instantly upon impact.

The truck involved in this devastating incident belongs to Universal Electric Motor Services, which is based in Hackensack.

Emergency responders dedicated significant efforts throughout the day to retrieve and lift the submerged truck back onto solid ground using a crane. Consequently, road closures were implemented during this operation for public safety reasons.

As of now, authorities have not released any information regarding the identities of those who were inside the ill-fated vehicle.
