Two Men Injured in Crash in Town of Clayton

A crash in the Town of Clayton, New York sent two men to the hospital on Sunday morning. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, 37-year-old Caylen Churchill was driving a 2017 Chevy Silverado at a high rate of speed when deputies tried to pull him over on State Route 12.

Officials reported that Churchill passed multiple vehicles and failed to negotiate a turn on County Route 181, resulting in a collision with a utility pole. In an attempt to escape, Churchill exited the vehicle from the passenger's side and tried to flee on foot but was apprehended by authorities.

The passenger in the vehicle, identified as Dane Matthews, an 18-year-old resident of Clayton, sustained injuries from the crash. He was subsequently airlifted to SUNY Upstate Medical Center for medical treatment. Meanwhile, Churchill himself was taken to River Hospital for his injuries and later released.

As of now, investigations into this incident are still ongoing. Authorities are working diligently to gather more information about what led up to this crash and determine any potential contributing factors.
