Two People Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 17 in Campbell

Two people died and the highway was shut down for nearly 3 hours.
Two people lost their lives in a multi-vehicle crash that occurred on southbound Highway 17 in Campbell early Friday morning. The California Highway Patrol reported that the accident happened at around 4:10 a.m., just north of Hamilton Avenue. "A man died at the scene, and a woman died later at a hospital," said the CHP.
According to investigations, a Mercedes stalled in one of the southbound lanes of Highway 17, near Hamilton Avenue. The man and woman were standing close to it when an approaching vehicle swerved to avoid hitting the Mercedes but ended up striking both individuals instead. It is still unclear why they were standing there or what caused the car to stall.
The crash resulted in shutting down all lanes for almost three hours before reopening them again by 7 am. A Sig-alert was issued shortly after blocking off lanes due to this tragic incident.
No further details have been released yet regarding this fatal accident on Southbound Highway 17; however, authorities are urging anyone with information about what happened leading up until now should come forward as soon as possible so they can piece together exactly how these two people lost their lives.
