A suburban high school is in mourning after two students from South Elgin High School were killed and two others injured in a devastating car crash on Thursday morning. The incident occurred at the intersection of Route 25 and Kenyon Road, which lies on the border of Bartlett and South Elgin.

The four teenage girls involved in the accident were en route to school when their Honda Civic collided with a semi-truck, causing the wreckage to be pushed into a nearby cornfield. Despite being just blocks away from their destination, they never made it to South Elgin High School.

Firefighters faced significant challenges as they worked to rescue the trapped teens due to the mangled state of the vehicle. In order to reach three unconscious girls inside, emergency responders had to remove the car's roof.

News of this tragic event quickly spread throughout the community, prompting immediate action by school officials. Counselors and social workers were made available at South Elgin High School to provide support for grieving students coping with this sudden loss.

In response to this heartbreaking incident, School District U-46 released an official statement expressing deep sorrow over losing a member of their family: "It is with a heavy heart that we write about a loss in our South Elgin High School family... Our thoughts, prayers, and most sincere condolences are with families and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."

Out of respect for privacy and pending next-of-kin notifications, no information regarding names or identities has been disclosed by authorities or school officials. Bartlett police have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances leading up to the crash.

As South Elgin High School continues to notify families affected by this tragedy, the entire community stands united in grief and support for those who have lost their loved ones.
