The 15-year-old passenger is currently in ICU on a ventilator, but doctors say her injuries don't appear life-threatening.

Columbia County deputies in Evans, Georgia responded to a car accident on Tuesday morning that resulted in two teenagers being hospitalized. According to authorities, the incident occurred at the intersection of Riverwood Parkway and General Wood Parkway.

The crash involved a 2012 Toyota Highlander and a 2012 Toyota Prius. The Highlander was traveling east in the through lane, while the Prius was heading west in the left turn lane. The driver of the Prius attempted to make a left turn onto General Wood Parkway but failed to see the approaching Highlander.

As a result, the left front corner of the Prius collided with the left front corner of the Highlander, as reported by deputies at the scene. The occupants of both vehicles sustained injuries from this impact.

The 17-year-old driver of the Highlander suffered scrapes from their seatbelt, while their 42-year-old passenger also received similar injuries. However, it was revealed that these injuries were not severe.

Unfortunately, things took a more serious turn for one occupant of the Highlander - a 15-year-old who was seated in its backseat. Officials have disclosed that this teenager suffered facial and orbital fractures along with bleeding on their brain lining. Currently placed under intensive care unit (ICU) observation and connected to a ventilator, doctors have stated that her injuries do not appear life-threatening despite their severity. It is worth noting that she was not wearing her seatbelt during this accident.

All three individuals from inside the Highlander were transported to Augusta University Medical Center for further medical attention. On another note, it has been confirmed by Greenbrier High School that all those involved are members of its cross-country team.

Following this distressing incident witnessed by many within Greenbrier High School's community, additional school counselors and support staff have been made available for students and faculty who may require assistance or counseling during this time.

In response to these events unfolding before them, Greenbrier High School released a statement expressing their support and concern for those involved. They stated, "Our Wolfpack family extends our thoughts and prayers to all involved, the school day will continue."

As investigations into this accident continue, it serves as a reminder of the importance of wearing seatbelts and remaining vigilant while on the road.
