Both drivers transported to Jefferson Community Health and Life for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, Ambulance Service, Fairbury Rural Fire, and Daykin Fire and Rescue swiftly responded to a two-vehicle collision on Thursday evening. The accident occurred on Highway 15 just south of the Plymouth turn, at the intersection of Highway 15 and 722nd Road.

According to authorities, the incident took place shortly before 8:30 PM when a 2022 Jayco Motorhome pulling an enclosed trailer was traveling south on Hwy 15. The driver, identified as 71-year-old Douglas Darling from Arlene, Idaho, missed his intended turn. In an attempt to correct his course, Darling began reversing onto Highway 15 in order to make the proper turn.

Unfortunately, during this maneuvering process, the trailer jackknifed and extended across the northbound lane of traffic. Tragically, a second vehicle approached rapidly without enough time for its driver to react appropriately.

The second vehicle involved was a 2010 Ford Escape driven by Gary Bartles from Daykin Nebraska who is aged fifty-five years old. Bartles collided with the side of the trailer which resulted in it being completely sheared off from the motorhome upon impact.

Both drivers sustained injuries as a result of this unfortunate incident but were fortunate enough not to be facing life-threatening situations. They were promptly transported by ambulance services to Jefferson Community Health and Life for further medical attention.

Authorities are currently investigating this accident further in order to determine any additional factors or circumstances that may have contributed towards its occurrence.
